Contro Room
Featuring Josh Short
how Runs March 10, 2011 – April 23, 2011
Reception on March 19th, 5-8pm
Johansson Projects presents an installation by Josh Short, where crisis is business as usual.
The exhibition begins with a deceptive facade of crudely framed screen prints. Upon further investigation, viewers can find a hidden door to the surveillance control room; a cross between a post-apocalyptic survivalist bunker and a lazy police office. As the new commanders of this strange outpost, they are equipped with food, tools, and recreational activities – including a remote controlled video surveillance vehicle and a set of Sopranos DVDs. Confronted with questions about the nature of their own cultural consumption, viewers might ask themselves whether they are in on the joke or are the punchline itself.
