Nimah Gobir Solo Exhibition
October 1 – October 5, 2025
Reception: Friday October 3, 5-8pm
Johansson Projects presents “Better Dey Come”, a solo show of work by Nimah Gobir as a part of Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week. Building on the momentum of last year’s groundbreaking debut, Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week returns to honor the vibrant creativity and cultural impact of Black artists across the region.
Nimah Gobir is an Oakland based artist and educator whose work is rooted in the environment of the domestic interior. Often drawing from family photographs and other personal ephemera, she combines painting with embroidery, patterned textiles, and photo transfer to create patchwork portraits of intimate memories and family histories. The child of Nigerian-born parents, Gobir’s work interrogates enduring results of diaspora and the renewal of belonging to a home.
Join us for a reception with the artist coinciding with Oakland Art Murmur, Friday, October 3, 5-8pm. The solo exhibition will be on display from September 13 – October 11.
